Frequently asked

Common questions, direct answers.

How do consultations work?
Every new matter starts with a 30-minute scoping consultation. The first session is free of charge — we'd rather know upfront whether we're the right firm for your situation than waste your time. After the consultation, if you'd like to proceed, we issue a written engagement letter with scope, fees, and timelines clearly set out.
What does the firm charge?
It depends on the matter type. Conveyancing follows the prescribed tariff. Family and basic commercial work is often fixed-fee. Litigation and complex advisory is billed hourly with phase-based estimates and a written ceiling. We never bill without a prior written agreement on scope and rates.
Do I get a senior attorney on my matter?
Yes. Every matter is led by an admitted attorney from intake to resolution. Junior associates and candidate attorneys may assist on research and drafting, but senior review is non-negotiable on every output that goes to the client or court. This is what "boutique" actually means in practice.
Where are you based and where can you act?
Our principal office is in Bryanston, Johannesburg, with secondary chambers at New Court Chambers in Pretoria Central — placing us close to both the Gauteng High Courts and the Master's Office. We act directly across Gauteng and through correspondent attorneys in the rest of the country. For property transfers, we work nationally.
Do you offer pro bono or Legal Aid work?
Yes. We accept a limited number of pro bono matters each year through the Legal Practice Council's pro bono programme, and we take Legal Aid referrals in family and certain civil matters. Please raise it during your initial consultation.
How does the client portal work?
Every active matter gets its own secure portal where you can view live status, milestones, fee summaries, uploaded documents, and message your attorney directly. This is included with every engagement — no extra fee. Login details are issued once your engagement letter is signed.
Are you POPIA compliant?
Yes. Our information processing, file storage, and client portal are all built around POPIA compliance. We have an Information Officer registered with the Information Regulator and a documented data handling policy available on request.
